Bildungszentrum Am Städel - mitten in Frankfurt

Our centre

Frankfurt am Main is a cosmopolitan city. Its more than 750,000 inhabitants come from 180 different countries.

This diversity is also reflected in the formation work of “Am Städel,” which is used by a wide variety of people.

“Am Städel” is an initiative of members and friends of the Catholic Prelature Opus Dei. Its message is that all baptized Christians are called to follow Christ, which means living according to the Gospel and passing it on to others.

“Am Städel” is located at Gartenstraße 46 in 60596 Frankfurt. If you would like more information, please contact Reinhard Backes.

Family

Parenting is a matter for parents. Mothers and fathers are irreplaceable. Friendships with peers are no less important for the development of young people.

Both can be combined, for example on a “family day.” Everyone gets together for joint activities: excursions, games, sports, or whatever else.

The basis for this is the child welfare guideline of the »Studentische Kulturgemeinschaft e.V.« – the supporting association of “Am Städel.”

Opus Dei

»Whoever follows after Christ, the perfect man, becomes himself more of a man. «. A phrase, an invitation from the Second Vatican Council (Gaudium et Spes, Nr. 41) to all the baptised to follow Christ, to live according to his Gospel in everyday life, in the family and at work, in their commitment to others.

»Following Christ« means living according to the Gospel in everyday life, in the family, at work, and in our commitment to others.

Foundation

In July 1953, the first members of Opus Dei to arrive in Germany from Spain founded the »Studentische Kultgemeinschaft e.V.« in Bonn. A few weeks later it was registered in the city’s register of associations.

Together with their first German friends, the initiators wanted to use the association to help shape the new society of the young Federal Republic. Spaces and programmes were to be created to strengthen the responsibility of the individual for his or her fellow man. This was in the spirit of the founder of Opus Dei, Josefmaria Escrivá.

Over the course of 70 years, » Studentische Kulturgemeinschaft e.V. « has supported numerous initiatives, educational centres for adults, with varying degrees of accommodation for students, and youth centres.
